Won-ton: a cat tale told in Haiku by Lee Wardlaw

Grades: 3-6

Committee Annotation: A skeptical shelter cat finally finds a home with the perfect boy. Typical in senryu (a form of haiku) with expressive illustrations; this whole literary package is heartwarming and unforgettable.

  1. This book made some of us think, but we enjoyed it a lot. Some students were not big fans because they did not like to read poetry. The illustrations were bright, creative and beautiful!
This book was really awesome and funny in some parts. We recommend this book to all poetry lovers.

  4. This book is about a homeless cat that gets adopted. The part in the book that really stood out for me was the ending when you find out the cat's real name. I think this book is great because in the beginning it is a mystery what the cat's name is and in the end it is a surprise. This book would be EXCELLENT for a cat lover.

  21. I enjoyed the book because it was presented in haiku throughout the entire book, and I also thought the book had an impecable ending. It's funny because my cat Daisy sleeps in my room and during the night she crawls onto my bed, kneads at my stomach and ends up falling asleep. In a way they're a little bit alike!
